The Psychological Impact of Foreclosure
Foreclosure is one of the most dreaded words in the modern world, in fact, it has risen to be one of the most dreaded in the past two years or more since the economic crash and resulting real estate crisis. Foreclosures happened left and right, more and more people lost their homes and are now living in apartments too small for a family, some are living in trailer parks which are rented out, and some are just living in their cars. Some even have fears that the only home they have left, their cars, may also be foreclosed.
Obviously a lot of people will suffer psychologically from the devastation that foreclosures mean. Unfortunately, it is not only the adults who will suffer; the children may well be the ones to suffer the most.
Children do not understand what is going on in the economic world, they do not understand why their parents are no longer smiling, can no longer buy them the food that they enjoy most, could no longer afford to buy them clothes even when they are all being outgrown. Worse, they do not understand why they have to choose only a few of their belongings and to pack them up while the rest are crated and sold.
Adults and children need the stability that a home gives and losing the home through foreclosure would mean that the family has to make some drastic adjustments which may not be easy to achieve. Some adults close in into themselves and refuse to speak about it. Some would do drastic decisions to put a roof over their heads, some just plain give up and disappear.
More and more people are facing the threat and reality of foreclosure, and even if the government has introduced programs like the Home Affordable Modification Program or HAMP, if it is too late to apply for it, then they still get foreclosed.
Psychologically, the impact of foreclosure on both the adults and the children drive the economy down. Depressed adults are not productive, this means that the government would have to find solutions to support these individuals and they could not afford to do this all the time.
If you are a homeowner, prevent the threat of foreclosure by inquiring about all the solutions which could lower your monthly dues. The lenders would just be glad to help out for they too are suffering from the losses of foreclosures.
